LOCAL BANDS RALLY BEHIND FLOODED FAIRFAX MUSICIAN
Mark Karan by Susan J. Weiand |
Fairfax, CA -- When local musicians discovered that one of their own had suffered significant losses in the recent flooding, planning began within hours to stage a benefit show to get Tom Finch back in business.
Finch, a guitarist and music teacher, works out of a small basement studio in Fairfax. During the flooding, five feet of mud and rushing water filled his studio, burying his guitars, computer, PA system, amplifiers, microphones, and other equipment.
"There were a lot of people, and a lot of musicians, affected by the flood," says performer Rahman D'Amato, one of the organizers. "It would be great to help everyone, but we thought we'd start out by helping Tom as he was hit really hard and is such an integral part of the Fairfax Music Scene. Tom is a great guy and well-known in the community for always offering his music and his time to perform at benefits and relief concerts around the Bay Area and especially Marin. He was hit harder than most, so we decided to focus our efforts on getting him back in business."
The Flood Relief Benefit for Tom Finch is this Saturday, January 14, at 19 Broadway in Fairfax. The lineup includes performances by The Tom Finch Group, members of Big Brother and the Holding Company, Sabbath Lives, Rahman D'Amato, members of Chrome Johnson, Droids of Playground, Rhythm Matrix, Roadside Daisys with members of Copper Wimmin, Leon Bristow, Blane Lyon, Larkin Gayl, plus an All-Star Jam Session with Mark Karan from Ratdog and Jemimah Puddleduck, Jon Axtell of Psychefunkapus, Marc Smith, Dan Duffin, Dana Miller, Rob Fordyce, and other special guests.
Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation $20 and up, VIP Party $50 and up.
