Former Grateful Dead vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay will join the Dark
Star Orchestra for an evening of music and fundraising for the Rex
Foundation's Black Tie Dye Ball at the 9:30
Club in Washington D.C., Saturday December 3. DSO co-founder, the late Scott
Larned who passed away in April from a heart attack while on tour with DSO,
came up with the name for the event that would mark the Rex Foundation's return
to live benefit concerts. It is in his memory that the Rex Foundation has decided
to host a series of Black Tie Dye Balls continuing with the Dec 3 benefit in
Washington DC.
A silent auction benefit will include a Bob
Weir-signed Ibanez acoustic guitar to benefit
Scott Larned's daughter as well as other rare, collectible Grateful Dead and
music related items. All show ticket sales and silent auction proceeds will
go to benefit the following local DC area programs:
- Community Harvest
- Perry School Community Services Center
- The Washington Jazz Arts Institute
- The Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Program of Disabled Sports USA
In the fall of 1983, the Rex Foundation was established as a non-profit charitable
organization by members of the Grateful Dead and friends. Since 1984 the Rex
Foundation has granted $7.7 million to some 1,000 recipients. Rob Barracco,
former vocalist/keyboardist with The Dead, Phil
Lesh and Friends and the Zen
Tricksters, is filling the keyboardist/vocalist slot for this tour.
Limited
tickets still remain for the concert, and a special benefit dinner and post-concert
reception for donors. More information is available at www.darkstarorchestra.net
and www.rexfoundation.org.
