The Gulf Coast Relief Benefit concert featuring Bay Area musicians donating their services to help send relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina will be held at The Independent, 628 Divisadero Street, San Francisco, on Sunday, October 2, from 5:30 pm until. The special charity event features jazz, blues, rock and R&B artists, including Papa Mali, Kirk Joseph and Backyard Groove, Eric Lindell, Cecil "P'Nut" Daniels, Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Andy Forest, The Blue Swamis featuring Roger Rocha from 4 Non Blondes, and more. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Tipitina's Foundation and the New Orleans Musicians Clinic. Tickets are $25 and are available through the box office at the Independent starting today, or online via www.ticketweb.com or www.theindependentsf.com.

“After Hurricane Katrina, we wanted to create an organic event and bring healing to the musicians affected by this tragedy,” says Jessica Stone, organizer of the event. “The concert is an all-volunteer effort, everyone from the event committee, to the musicians and many other offering products and services, is coming together to help the musicians and citizens of the Gulf Coast. We’re pleased to have the help of Another Planet Entertainment, which is providing one of the best venues in the Bay Area, The Independent.”

The event will specifically provide relief to the musicians of the Gulf Coast by sending all proceeds to the Tipitina's Foundation and the New Orleans Musicians Clinic. Funds will be distributed equally between the two groups.

About The Tipitina’s Foundation:

“The Tipitina’s Foundation is committed to saving the culture of New Orleans. The first step we are taking is to locate all the New Orleans artists and their families and then find housing for those who need it. Meanwhile, we are actively seeking donations to provide our music community in exile with whatever resources they need to survive, including clothes, gigs, instruments and options for resettlement.” The Tipitina’s Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. About New Orleans Musicians Clinic (NOMC): The NOMC is an innovative not-for-profit occupational medicine and wellness partnership offering comprehensive health care to musicians. The NOMC (itself displaced from its home base) is working with an umbrella organization called the Lafayette Music Alliance (which includes a group called Healthcare for Musicians, targeting Acadiana musicians) to get assistance to displaced New Orleans musicians. Funds will be distributed by a sister agency/clinic, SWLAHEC (Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center). The SWALHEC/NOMC Relief Fund is a 501(c)(3) group under the auspices of the Foundation of the LSU Health Sciences Center.
