Columbia Records has recently signed former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio who has spent his entire music career on Elektra until this point. Trey's Columbia debut, Shine will hit on November 1 as a double-disc. The twelve-song album was produced by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen), who also plays bass on the album.
The songs on Shine include "Love Is Freedom," "Come As Melody," "Air Said to Me," "Love That Breaks All Lines" and "Sweet Dreams Melinda," written with former collaborators Russ Lawton and Tony Markellis.
The second half of the release will be a special DVD featuring clips from the August 13 concert at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre as well as an interview with Anastasio.
Anastasio has been recording for close to a year, and has reportedly tossed out a number of sessions, including work done with King Crimson/Peter Gabriel bassist Tony Levin, drummer Jerry Marotta and long time friend Ray Paczkowski. Other material including sessions with Mike Gordon appears to have been cut as well.
Anastasio currently has a number of shows scheduled including Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, two shows opening for the Rolling Stones (10.6, 10.8), one headlining gig in Asheville, NC on 10.7, and a special Jerry Garcia tribute at Berkeley's Greek Theatre on 9.24.
