HAVANA: Ibrahim Ferrer, a leading vocalist with the hugely popular and legendary Buena Vista Social Club died at age 78 this past Saturday, in Cuba. Ferrer was featured on the Buena Vista Social Club album that won a Grammy in 1999, and also appeared in the film of the same name.
In addition to his work with the band, in 1999 Ferrer was featured on, Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer, which led to a Latin Grammy for best new artist in 2000.
Two other well-known members of the original Buena Vista group, singer Compay Segundo and pianist Ruben Gonzalez, died in 2003.
