Since July 2003, Bay Area of California-based Hot Buttered Rum String Band has traveled more than 50,000 miles on their "Bio Bus" helping to raise awareness about the use of alternative fuel. The "Bio Bus" was a school bus acquired from students at Middlebury College in Vermont modified to run on waste vegetable oil. In late spring 2005, the band decided to take this concept of touring on veggie-oil to the next level, purchasing a 40 foot diesel coach. With the help and skills of Ryan Grace, founder of Real Energy, the band recently finished the coach's conversion to run on veggie oil and has embarked on a six week tour in this new bus. Stops on this six week journey will include various club dates throughout the U.S. highlighted by slots at festivals such as moe.'s Summer Camp, Big Wu Family Reunion, Appalachian Uprising, June Plum Festival, Wakarusa Music Festival and Telluride Bluegrass. The tour will come to a close on the band's home turf in CA at the High Sierra Music Festival.
