 Club D'elf
|
Like a laboratory overflowing with tools of experimentation, the Boston-based ensemble Club D'elf has the innate potential to create, demolish and recreate by combining the many elements at the readied hands of the scientist.
Lead by Bassist Mike Rivard, Club D'elf's many forms mirror its many styles - the volatile jazz workshops of Charles Mingus, the heavy syncopation of traditional Moroccan rhythms, the avant-funk of 1970s Miles Davis, the breakbeats of the London club scene - and the list goes on.
Surrounding himself with the premier musicians of the day including keyboardist John Medeski, oud player Brahim Fribgane, drummer Adam Deitch, violinist Matt Maneri, turntablist Mister Rourke and more, Rivard has accomplished what many rotating units are not able to - create a cohesive and driving ensemble with each performance maintaining a unique voice as seen on the collective's live recordings available on the Kufala label.
This month, Rivard and Club D'elf travel down 95 to welcome spring in New York City with performances every Tuesday night at the Knitting Factory - Tap Bar beginning at 11 pm. As each night is sure to bring down its fare share of special guests, these shows are not to be missed.
