GET YOUR ROCKS OFF POST-PANIC IN NYC

For those of you not wanting to wait until a possible visit by the Summer Olympics in 2012, New York City is happy to host a big weekend of rock and roll Olympics this April. While the main event will be Widespread Panic's much-anticipated debut at the world renowned Radio City Music Hall, that three-night-stand will serve as an opening ceremonies as the rest of the city will be hopping with festivities to test your athletic mettle until dawn. Who better to play host than the freaks at Rocks Off, who have put together a slate of late night shows to whet the eclectic appetites of the average Panic fan. Like an all-around gymnastics competition stretching from uneven bars to the pommel horse, Rocks Off has got gigs to flip onto, vault over, balance on and perform the perfect dismount into the wee hours of the NYC morning. The song says it's the town that never sleeps and they'll be giving both the locals and their out-of-town guests plenty of reasons to stay up past their bedtime.

Choices, choices, choices!! So much to do post-show that the island of Manhattan ain't big enough to contain it all. So pack your fire-retardant brain, an extra liver and don't forget your sea legs!

Let's see what we've got here...

Jerry Joseph by Weintrob
*Almost two years ago, Joe Russo and Marco Benevento took their fledging Duo onto the East River with Rana's Scott Metzger and made waves playing a scintillating set of Zeppelin that was nasty enough to dredge up mob-hit corpses. Now they've perfected the act, added Ween's Dave Dreiwitz on bass and will be taking their act onto the gorgeous cruise liner, The Temptress, to keep your boogie on til the wee hours (Thursday). If you ain't heard Metzger go medieval on the Led Zep, you got to hear this... if you have, you've already got your tickets. This is the can't miss of the weekend.

* Spreadheads, no doubt, know of Jerry Joseph's bite and wit and his intensity and energy will be on display twice with his Jackmormons, both on the waters (Saturday) and downtown on terra firma (Friday). Who knows who might show up at those shows? Wouldn't want to hear about it the next morning, would you?

* Want to surrender to the groovy jam? Signal Path is one of those bands on everyone's "must check out" list and they're making some waves of their own, so come confirm the buzz for yourself, twice if you like (Thursday & Friday) in the warm intimacy of Lucille's at BB King's just a quick jaunt from Radio City in Times Square. Perpetual Groove isn't just a clever name and they'll be throwing down two whole sets worth (Thursday) down at Rocks Off home base, Tribeca Rock Club... best light show in town!

* Jamie Mclean, the guitarist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has been building up his own following playing a recent residency filled with blistering originals with a classic FM radio feel and some thumbs-up guitar work. Grab a few post-Panic brews at the Knit's Tap Bar (Friday) and check out some rock and roll that should be right on with the Widespread sound.

* Tribeca will be a-popping with the high-energy bluegrass stylings of the Hot Buttered Rum String Band (Saturday). There ain't nothing in the world to extend your night like some tasty picking and if you've still got it in you, this one will make your weekend just a little bit longer.
