OK. So yeah that's a Peter Frampton song and all but it's true. Noise Pop 2005 maxes out the quality with these freshly confirmed acts: Hot Hot Heat, The Walkmen, Mission of Burma, Alexi Murdoch, Louis the XIV, Damon and Naomi, Vetiver, Two Gallants, Comas, Smoosh, Les Georges Lenigrad, A Girl Called Eddy, Karen Ann. This exercise in quality and genius will take place in San Francisco February 22-27 for the lucky 13th year.
This genius cast of characters is in addition to previously announced acts, the Polyphonic Spree, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Amon Tobin, Joanna Newsom, Nada Surf, Rogue Wave, Mates of State, High on Fire The Velvet Teen, Nicolai Dunger, and Mac McCaughan of Superchunk's side project, Portastatic.
Noise Pop was founded by music aficionado (or some might say, geek) Kevin Arnold in 1993 as a way to shine light on a largely overlooked yet growing community. What began innocently as a one off, one-night stand has grown into perhaps the most celebrated indie rock leaning festival in the country. Over the years, Noise Pop has featured little known artists who are now household names (or damn close to it) such as The White Stripes, Jimmy Eat World, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Bright Eyes and Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. It is no wonder Noise pop has been dubbed "San Francisco's most awesomest annual music festival" by Fader Magazine (we know its not exactly proper English but we like the sentiment!). The event has garnered coverage from around from around the globe including MTV, Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, Magnet, and National Public Radio.
Noise Pop film festival and the co-sponsored Hastings Music Law Summit West details will be announced soon.
All festival badges and tickets for confirmed shows are on sale now. All festival badges cost $125 and are available through www.noisepop.com.
