Reggie Watts by Warren Churgin
Seattle's favorite rockin' sons are about to unleash their brand new CD, Say What You Mean, on Velour. The album will hit stores nationwide on April 12, 2005. Say What You Mean is the follow up to Maktub's stunning debut, Khronos, which catapulted the band onto the national scene.

The Boston Globe exclaimed, "The notion of a soul band from the land of lattes and lousy weather may seem as unlikely as a country singer from Compton. But that's just fine with the members of Seattle's Maktub, who are more interested in making compelling records than fitting within the arbitrary musical boundaries of genre or geography."

With Khronos, Maktub forged a unique musical road, garnering reviews comparing singer Reggie Watts to Al Green and the band's sound to everyone from Sly and the Family Stone to Soundgarden to Led Zeppelin.

On Say What You Mean, Reggie's voice – with its astonishing falsetto and four octave vocal range – comes across brilliantly, with a versatility that weaves a unique fabric within rock music. Maktub's soul roots remain intact on the new record, but Say What You Mean is, at its core, rock-n-roll.

Maktub's live shows also garner consistently positive reviews, "Phenomenal live shows ..." declared The Stranger, adding, "Maktub is the inimitable Reggie Watts backed by some of the finer musicians in Seattle, serving up a heavy, dark, soulful brew that grabs you by the spine."

Veteran producer/engineer Bob Power (Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Meshell Ndegeocello, Citizen Cope, Ozomatli) lived with the band in Seattle for three months while producing and recording Say What You Mean.

This is the band's second release on New York City's Velour Music Group, joining label mates Kaki King, Soulive, Sonya Kitchell, The Navigators and Mike Errico.

Tour dates in support of the new record will be announced shortly.
