The Sundogs by Adam Smith
The Sundogs' Will and Lee Haraway grew up in Memphis and on Memphis music. Subsequently, the brothers get excited any time they can bring their brand of "No Depression Rock n Roll" back to their hometown. The Sundogs travel from their adopted home in Atlanta to play the Young Avenue Deli on Saturday November 27.

"Oh yeah, we love playing in the Bluff City," said Lee Haraway, the younger of the two brothers. "Beyond playing for friends and family, our style still bears the mark of our growing up here. We've been touched by everything from Beanland, Al Green, Carl Perkins, Big Ass Truck and our friends from Lucero--you can hear it in our music."

The Sundogs have spent 2004 supporting their March debut release, BB Gun Days, a record that documents the evolution of The Sundogs' sound. The record has sold well on www.sundogs.net and has been critically acclaimed as an alt-country triumph.

"The record has been great for us," adds older brother Will Haraway, "BB Gun Days features a lot of the Americana sound that we started out with, but you can hear the music start to evolve to where it is now--all ballsy and rocking--with some of the songs. We can't wait to record the next one in the Spring to get that side of us out there."

The Sundogs' live show has lately been compared to the work of defunct Atlanta rockers The Black Crowes, a comparison perhaps driven as much by the fact that they were also led by a brotherly duo as the music.

"Yeah that's funny, we've gotten a lot of that lately from people that haven't seen us before," continued Will Haraway. "I'll take that as a compliment every time, especially if it gets people out to the shows, drinking beers and buying discs."

The Sundogs are coming off a well-received performance at the Down on the Farm Festival in Quincy, Florida on November 12. The Florida festival featured Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Perpetual Groove, JJ Grey of MOFRO, Tishamingo and many more great acts.

"Festivals are great, we're looking forward to doing more of them," said Will Haraway. "At least we knew what our closer would be, we've been playing that song (Little Feat's "Down on the Farm") for years.

"Seeing the other bands is always a treat, I had never seen Perpetual Groove, who have a great sound, and I was blown away by the Jennifer Hartwsick Band," continued Will Haraway. "Of course I'm biased towards my buddies, but I think Tishamingo is one of the best on the circuit. They're so damn good."

The Sundogs will be at The Library in Oxford, MS on Friday, November 26 and Young Avenue Deli in Memphis on Saturday November 27.
