SOUL LEGEND PASSES AWAY AT 73

Etta James
Legendary soul singer Etta James passed away this Friday morning at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, California, with her her husband and sons at her side. She was 73 years old.

Manager, Lupe De Leon, said that the cause was complications from leukemia. Her health had been deteriorating as of late, as she battled kidney problems, dementia, and leukemia. "It's a tremendous loss for her fans around the world," De Leon said. "She'll be missed. A great American singer. Her music defied category."

Her first brush with success came in 1955 with the release of "The Wallflower". After that, James cranked out a string of classic tunes in the late '50s and early '60s, including "Trust In Me," ''Something's Got a Hold On Me," ''Sunday Kind of Love," and ''All I Could Do Was Cry."

She is best remembered, however, for her enduring hit "At Last," recorded in 1961 for Argo, a subsidiary of Chicago's legendary Chess Records.

Check out some of her classic clips below, as we remember one of the greats in American popular music.
