If you are the kind of music fan that is only content when you are shaking your ass ferociously until you are a sweaty pile of nothing, start doing your daily calisthenics, because the Hairy Apes BMX are coming to a town near you. For those of you who are not familiar with HABMX, they are an Austin based band that has been crossing musical boundaries since 1997. Founded by Mike Dillon (Critters Buggin, Frog Brigade, Garage a Trois) the group includes E Clarke Wyatt on keys and electronics, John Speice on drums and JJ Richards on bass. They are known for playing music that is innovative, packed with energy and heavy grooves.

Having shared the stage with such acts as Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and DJ Logic, they have garnered a legion of dedicated fans that stretch far and wide. Anyone who was at High Sierra this past summer surely witnessed how great this band truly is. Whether it was at the Late Night Galactic show where Mike Dillon stripped down to his birthday suit, or the day show in the Vaudeville tent with the likes of Skerik and Brad Houser (Critters Buggin), HABMX was on the tip of everyone's tongue as one of the best acts at the fest.
With three albums under their belt, the quality of the Apes music is there and it speaks for itself. Think Beastie Boys on acid but with more intensity and musical prowess. The HABMX sound encompasses everything from rock to funk, hip-hop to jazz fusion, and it is because they are such musical chameleons that they can seem at home in the jam band community.
This tour is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Apes tours ever as more and more people are picking up on the buzz. The tour will kick off in Texas, stretch through the east and all the way over to the west coast by early November where Mike will catch up with his Critters Buggin band mates and embark on the Ropeadope New Music Seminar.
