The much anticipated new release from San Francisco singer/guitarist Garrin Benfield, Where Joy Kills Sorrow, will arrive in stores around the country on Friday, October 8. Recently returning to the Bay Area after performing three sets at the Blue Ridge Harvest Fest in Lafayette, GA, Benfield gears up for his West Coast CD release party at The Independent in San Francisco on Thursday, September 30 (showtime 8 p.m.). On Saturday, October 2, Benfield celebrates the release at Arlene's Grocery (showtime 7 p.m.) in the heart of the East Village in NYC. This will commence his 15-date East Coast run where he'll be sitting in on acoustic guitar with Dan Bern at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA and supporting Bern as an opener at the Paradise Lounge in Boston, MA and Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, OH. Benfield will perform in Burlington, Ithaca, Buffalo, Columbus, Washington DC, Atlanta, Miami, and many other cities so be sure to keep an eye out.
Kicking off his West Coast tour, Benfield will open for Dan Bern at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA on Monday, November 1. Benfield has quickly become recognized as a rare talent producing ardent songs with an ambitious guitar style that is all his own. An aspiring independent artist, he began receiving national exposure as a regular opener for Boz Scaggs. Scaggs also made a special guest appearance on his second full-length recording Nowhere Is Brighter, which was selected as a "Top 10 CD of 2002" by both Performing Songwriter Magazine and Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
Where Joy Kills Sorrow showcases Benfield's most radio-friendly tunes to date. With guitar-driven arrangements and an intelligent pop sensibility, it's no wonder San Francisco's KFOG radio station has given his music airplay on their "Acoustic Sunrise" program. Lush acoustic balladry, bold guitar excursions, and thought provoking lyrics make up this compelling collection of songs. Even traces of Benfield's greatest musical influences--The Beatles, Aimee Mann, and Pink Floyd--are subtly layered throughout.
Often labeled a guitar virtuoso, Benfield perseveres as a rising artist. Make sure to check out a set near you!
