10 DATE TOUR STARTS TONIGHT
The mythology that country music resides on in Nashville and the South in general is false at best. While the roots of this music may start there, tendrils quickly shot out everywhere which way, helping birth rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s and eventually settling for a spell in Bakersfield, California, where Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Gram Parsons and a host of other talented folks forged a new sound, an earthy, bar-ready alternative to Nashville’s high-gloss. The Bakersfield Sound embraces humanity’s foibles and warts with twang and rattle, good time music that doesn’t forget about the bad times.
| Brokedown In Bakersfield by Andrew Quist|
A group of sublimely gifted West Coast musicians have joined together as Brokedown In Bakersfield to explore this sound and make a few inroads of their own into what Gram and the rest got rolling. BIB is comprised of ALO’ s Dan Lebowitz (pedal steel), Scott Law (Telecaster guitar), Nicki Bluhm, Tim Bluhm of the Mother Hips (vocals, acoustic guitar), and the ALO rhythm section of Steve Adams (bass) and Dave Brogan (drums).
After making their live debut at the 2011 High Sierra Music Festival, Brokedown In Bakersfield has embarked on a California tour that begins today that should have honky-tonk doors swinging wildly!
