As if NYC doesn’t see enough great music! In the next few weeks NYC will get to witness arguably two of the best slide guitar players alive today. On May 21 and 22 Anders Osborne, who took this years Jazzfest by a storm, will come to town to lay down his legendary slide guitar to the intimate room of the Tribeca Rock Club. TRC had him grace the stage in December 2003 during one of the worst snowstorms of the winter. Don’t think I am kidding when I say this was probably the most intense show the club had seen in a while. For three-plus hours Anders had the crowd hypnotized by his blistery chops. Although there may have been over two feet of snow outside the room was instantly transformed into a grimy bar near the levee in N’awlins. These upcoming shows are sure to leave those who missed this year’s Jazzfest feeling a little better about themselves.
If that weren’t enough for the spoiled NYC crowds that embrace New Orleans artists constantly, John Mooney is set to make a rare Big Apple appearance with his band Bluesiana. Mooney, just like Anders, can play the slide guitar to Haynes-esque proportions. As a matter of fact, Warren Haynes invited him on stage at this year’s New Orleans night shows at the Orpheum Theater for a rendition of an old blues standard. Who knows--maybe Tribeca Rock Club will get such a treat like those witnessed in New Orleans. Mooney has not been to the city in over two years and that was a solo gig, so expect great things with this show.
