Team Safety proudly announces Norcal Fusion, a collaborative art and music event benefiting Global Fusion, to be held on April 19, 2004 starting at 8 p.m., at the newly opened 12 Galaxies nightclub located at 2565 Mission Street in San Francisco.

The event features the local music of Sam Flot Quintet, Tricycle Side Project, underbite, DJ Adam J, and an interactive art project. Proceeds from the event will benefit Global Fusion, a 12-month expedition beginning May 2004, that aims to inspire cultural understanding in the world through art and words. Award winning artist Lyn Bishop and internationally published journalist Taro Tsuzuki team up to cross the globe for collaborations with international artists, writers, and locals to delve into cultural issues that affect our world today. They will strive to demystify our differences, encourage acceptance, and deliver this important message through a bi-monthly electronic journal published with real time, on-the-road reporting.
"Global Fusion is founded on the belief that when we understand each other through experiences, we are better prepared to create a world based on acceptance and peace," says Tsuzuki.
"The arts allow society to participate in social reconstruction, making artists themselves catalysts for positive change," adds Bishop.
Each of the musical artists features various flavors of improvisational music, exploring in-the-moment creation of sounds, beats, and grooves. Sam Flot Quintet's music mixes improvised sounds and composed instrumentals while blending in spoken word. underbite is a synthesis of music and orthodontia for the soul, while Tricycle Side Project finds inspiration in the sounds of nature, analog synthesizers, and sometimes just a simple idea to create their unique sound. DJ Adam J adds to an evening of inspired music and art by spinning new sounds from the turntables.
In the spirit of improvised creation, guests will be encouraged to add to the community collaborative art project throughout the evening. Art materials ranging from paint to paste will be available for incorporation into the collaborative work.
"With art funding cut to historic lows in California and throughout the U.S., Global Fusion becomes a public experiment in privately funding art in our community," says Monica Schwenke of Team Safety.
"Norcal Fusion has been organized by a volunteer group of local music aficionados," says Dave Jones of Team Safety. "The enthusiasm to encourage art, music, and culture in the community has been overwhelming."
