Bill Withers | Live At Carnegie Hall | 1973 - Sony

Click to buy the album! The show starts with over eight minutes of “Use Me” by one of the most soulful voices that has ever graced the airwaves, what else do you need to know? Well how about this: It was pouring rain at Carnegie Hall (outdoor venue). The masses had assembled and as legend has it, not a person left as the rain came down and the depth of this legend came boiling up. “Ain’t No Sunshine” fits the bill, and “Grandma’s Hands” is haunting. The classic, “Lean On Me” gets nice treatment as does the anti-war cry, “I Can’t Write Left Handed.” Withers on guitar is backed by a gorgeous band just as capable of combining symphonic walls as funky deep end licks. This album truly captures Withers’ melancholy soul filled being which can be found on almost every track he’s recorded, but what most albums don’t show is his incredible stage pretense and ability to work a crowd. This concert was voted one of the greatest shows ever played, come find out why.
