Greetings friends! The eagerly awaited 3rd installment of The Contagious Collaboration is scheduled for April 2-4, 2004 just outside of Charleston, SC. Edisto River Refuge, in Canadys, SC, plays host to a weekend of amazing music and good vibes in a beautiful outdoor setting. Our festival location was recently featured in both National Geographic and Charleston magazines as one of the best escapes in the Southeast! Special thanks to Scott Kennedy and Carolina Heritage Outfitters for helping us create a unique campout that embraces emerging talent, friendship, and environmental awareness.
 Performance at Contagious Collaboration |
The mission of The Contagious Collaboration is to recognize and promote the innovative, creative, and diverse music found throughout the Southeast. Remaining loyal to our roots in Charleston, SC, we aim to produce a camping experience that not only highlights emerging and established talent, but also encourages awareness and enjoyment of the great outdoors in a pristine natural setting. The Contagious Collaboration strives to grow in size and popularity while stimulating our guests and maintaining the ideals of friendship, adventure, education, and community. It is our sincere hope for the future that we may continue to foster civic and environmental outreach through grassroots efforts.
The Contagious Collaboration began in 2002 as a unique outdoor showcase for artists and musicians in and around South Carolina. The motivation behind our event is to encourage our guests to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying live rock 'n' roll, jazz, bluegrass, DJs, and reggae as well as the company of good friends. This tradition, based on positive energy and spirited creativity, allows for an enjoyable weekend escape for music aficionados, residents, college students, nature lovers, and just about anyone else that comes to mind.
Our aim is not to be the biggest festival, by any means. Our weekend campouts attempt to entertain and educate, encouraging unity amongst many. Producing The Contagious Collaboration takes the passion, hard work, and support of many musicians, volunteers, and partners, putting forth an event enjoyed by all who join us.
In 2003, the production team found an ideal location at Edisto River Refuge in Canadys, SC to play host to our growing festivals. Utilizing many lessons learned in the past, as well as strategic partnerships and an escalating support base, the new effort has started to take shape. Respect for the environment and specifically our festival site remains very strong and gives our entire organization tremendous pride.
Looking ahead to the future, our mission of music promotion and production here in Charleston appears to be moving forward.
We never imagined in the beginning how this would turn out. We wholeheartedly thank and stand behind everyone who has helped us grow. Continuing to embrace our original musicians, sponsors, and friends is a priority for The Contagious Collaboration. Through word of mouth and print advertising, our street team, and a variety of other means including thecontagious.com, the possibilities are endless. Bands can expect opportunities for collaborations with many regional and national recording artists down the road.
Lastly, musicians, supporters, and new listeners nationwide have begun to pay attention. From New York to Georgia, California to Michigan, this will surely get bigger. Demo CDs and press kits have poured in from many talented acts, and we continue to distribute info on our participating artists and events. However, Charleston is the most important part of the equation to us and we remain steadfast. We love this town and the people that live here, and want to see staying power behind this festival. We anticipate visitors and interest from several neighboring states at upcoming events. Please continue to spread the word to friends, family, teachers, businesses, and others that can help our Contagious Family in any way possible. Let us know who you would like to hear, what we should change, and how we can improve.
Remember, this idea is Contagious... and you make it possible!
