Then October 1st Lotus returns to Dave's Taverna in Harrisonburg, VA following up on the full capacity gig in July. October 2nd Lotus plays in Virginia Beach following the String Cheese/Flaming Lips show, and October 3rd Lotus opens for John Scofield at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh, PA.
October 4th Lotus joins the Harmonized Records Showcase at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh with Garaj Mahal and Perpetual Groove. From there the tour winds through Nashville, Atlanta, Decatur-Alabama, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa City, Holland-Michigan, Milwaukee, Chicago, Bloomington-Indiana, and Cincinnati. The tour winds up with shows on October 30th at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA with Particle, and October 31st in NYC with a post-Widespread show at Coda, just blocks from Madison Square Garden at 34 E 34th.
This tour is the first since Lotus teamed up with Opus One Productions. Opus One, based out of Pittsburgh, PA, also works with Jazz Mandolin Project, and Liz Berlin and Jenn Wertz from Rusted Root. The partnership should prove to be a beneficial and lasting one. Plans are already in the works for an entire national tour as well as more regional touring.
Expanding from the Philadelphia base Lotus continues to mature musically in depth and breadth. JazzReview.com described the result as what one might "get if they could combine smooth/mellow fusion with a jam band, adding a generous dollop of drum & bass/jungle-style electronica." "We've been exploring new types of grooves and textures lately, just expanding our sound in general. And playing a ton of shows this year has really helped tighten up our compositions and improvising. All the new material is really fun to play and is giving us new musical challenges to deal with." - Luke Miller, guitarist for Lotus.
