Once in a great while you find a record label you can trust. From the groundbreaking jazz of Blue Note to the driving soul of Motown, history has offered a handful of labels that virtually guarantee quality music. Listeners knew if they picked up any record from these classic labels, the music would find a way to move them. Harmonized Records is continuing the tradition, offering jamband fans some of the latest and greatest offerings in today's burgeoning scene.
Harmonized Records is the newest project from Lee Crumpton, founder of the Homegrown Music Network. Homegrown has been a staple in the scene for years, helping new bands spread their sounds and selling CDs you can barely find anywhere else. Their mail-order catalog has become a bi-annual report on the best up-and-coming bands in the jam world. So after years of helping publicize and distribute the music, it was a natural next step to form a label of their own.
When most labels want to promote their product, they hold CD listening parties. When a jamband label wants to promote its product, they have a big ol' concert. Harmonized is holding a Showcase weekend on October 3rd and 4th at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC to introduce and show off five of their hottest bands. Friday 10.03 features the worldbeat of The Motet, with horn-driven funksters ulu opening up. Saturday 10.04 features Garaj Mahal, with the churning psychedelic sounds of Perpetual Groove and the loping loops of Lotus opening.
Garaj Mahal is a virtual supergroup of renowned musicians Fareed Haque, Kai Eckhardt, Eric Levy and Alan Hertz. Signing them was a major coup for Harmonized – its members have already recorded for Blue Note and played around the world with John McLaughlin. With an international calling card such as Garaj Mahal in their stable, Harmonized gained instant attention and respect throughout the industry. Both evenings also promise an all-star jam at the end of the night.
Harmonized also boasts several great artists who unfortunately won't be able to play the Showcase, including Col. Bruce Hampton & the Code Talkers, Ten Ton Chicken, and Netwerk:Electric. Special discounted weekend tickets, along with sound samples and more, are available at HarmonizedRecords.com. Come support a great new label that promises to deliver classic records for years to come.
