DELTA NOVE AT THE GOLDEN SAILS HOTEL

Delta Nove started its set with a short film on the recording of its newest album. All attention was on the screen as short interview clips were shown, accompanied by tunes from the album. The Golden Sails Hotel (Sublime's old stomping ground) was overrun last night by mobs of happy dancing people, many of which had been driven in on buses by the band.

Delta Nove opened with a little prelude, which went into a new tune called "Deep." This funky tune, driven by a bumpin’ bass-line (played by Brian Fox), was a great way to set a high standard for the show. The lead singer and guitarist Bobby Easton expresses emotion through his guitar and voice, while John Harrington on trumpet and Rob Covacevich on sax back him up with a crisp section of horns. This dark funky tune has a way of grabbing hold of your senses and turning them upside down for a feeling words can’t explain.

"Angle of the Dangle" was also among the new numbers they played, which drove the energy level in the crowd off the charts. Heath Bennett’s vibraphone playing mesmerized many of the listeners, including myself. The horns in this song are very solid as well. Darren O’ Brien (on drum kit) was on point from start to finish. The collectiveness of the band throughout this song especially backed up the standard they had set with their first number "Deep."

They started their second set in the front lobby of the venue with a seven-piece brass section accompanied by three musicians playing percussion. Trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and a sousaphone filled the lobby with beautiful music, while they slowly marched through the venue back towards the stage. Once on stage, there must have been 15 musicians (including DN’s guests) making beautiful music as a whole. The ability to have so many musicians on stage, while having the music sound that good, was an example of the altogether level of talent these musicians posses.

The CD release party was an excellent glimpse into the world of Delta Nove. These guys as a collective group set an example for having a good time while making music. The combined talent and togetherness of the group takes them to a place not many bands are capable of reaching. As a unit, these guys are unstoppable, and for no reason should these fine fellows pass through your hometown without you checking ‘em out. The CD release party was the start of their tour, so keep your eyes and ears open for Delta Nove.
