Summer festival season is a time of serious decisions for music fans. Deciding which festivals to go to, how far to drive, how much money to spend... this can be a somewhat frustrating experience. Especially when figuring out how much time is available to go. Should I go to a couple of three-day festivals, or a couple of two- and one-day festivals? Or should I do a string of small festivals to get in as many as possible? This is usually the hardest choice for folks to make. For those of you deciding on adding smaller festivals to your roster, you should definitely add this year’s inaugural Palmetto Groovefest to your list.

Even though it's only one day long, the Palmetto Groovefest promises to be a great festival with a full day of music and on-site camping. Instead of booking large, national acts, Groovefest founders/promoters have decided to concentrate instead on showcasing some of the best regional bands in the Southeast. Groovefest this year will feature the amazing banjo work of the Reverend Jeff Mosier; the intense, improvisational jams and emotionally charged music of Moonshine Still; the searing Texas style guitar slinging and slow New Orleans inspired grooves of Flat Front Tire; the high energy blend of funk, rock, and jazz of King Hippo; and the horn laden, conga driving, earth shaking bass, and three part harmonies of the jamband sextet The Work. Also appearing at the Palmetto Groovefest are performers such as Skydog, Elliot Holden, the Mighty Bofucious, Jackson Crossing, and Regali.

The Palmetto Groovefest will be held this weekend, Saturday May 24th, at Greenfield Excursions-Spartanburg Music Camp in Spartanburg, SC. Festival gates open at 9am; music starts at noon and goes until 3am. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at and at www.flatfronttire. Tickets can also be purchased at the Tavern on Greene in Columbia, SC and at Horizon Music in Greenville, SC. Tickets will also be available at the festival gates the day of the show. Directions to the festival and all other info can be found at
