Khronos,
the Velour Music Group
debut of Seattle natives Maktub, is set
for release on April 8, 2003. The record, merging the brooding rock for which
their hometown is known with dub, funk, and pure rhythm and blues, is imbued
with enough power and soul to obliterate any lingering images of flannel-clad
grunge rockers forever.
The band is already a West Coast live music institution, having shared the stage with the Dave Matthews Band, India.Arie, Ben Harper, Maceo Parker, G-Love, Earth, Wind & Fire, Zap Mama, Soulive and Gil-Scott Heron, to name a few. Maktub was also named "Best Seattle Band" in Seattle Weekly's 2002 reader's poll, beating out Pearl Jam. Equally rooted in ‘70s soul and West Coast hipster rock, Maktub is poised to deliver its singular brand of "heavy soul" to an even wider audience.

sound is difficult to categorize, but easy to get swept up in. Bassist Kevin
Goldman, drummer Davis Martin, keyboardist (and chief composer) Daniel
Spils and guitarist Thaddeus Turner will lock into an earthy groove,
only to erupt into aggressive rock or swirl into psychedelic dub. The sounds
of classic R&B instruments like wah-wah guitar, Hammond B3 organ and Fender
Rhodes mingle with experimental drum loops and samples, along with heavy guitar,
sitar and more. Reggie Watts's versatile baritone provides the soulful
thread through all of this musical adventure, equally inviting on the falsetto
funk of "You Can't Hide" and on the explosive rocker "Give Me Some Time." The
Portland Observer called Watts an "Al Green for a new generation."
The band will embark on its first national tour in April, opening for Soulive
