Yonder Mountain String Band hosted a two-night SOLD OUT New Year's Eve Extravaganza in Colorado! The weekend in Colorado kicked off in Boulder at a local brewpub on December 29th where Yonder Mountain's Kinfolk (YMSB's name for their family of fans) had a chance to come out and meet the band and other fans at the second annual meet and greet! Kinfolk traveled in from miles around- as far as NYC, Texas, California, Wisconsin, and more from the rest of the country to share NYE '02-'03 with YMSB.

December 30th they returned to old stomping grounds for a night at the historic Boulder Theater. Special guests included Pete Wernick a.k.a Dr. Banjo, former IBMA President and member of Hot Rize. Friend and songwriter extraordinaire Benny "Burle" Galloway also joined the Yonder Mountain boys in the first set. If you're wondering where you may have heard a Burle song before, check out "To Say Goodbye, To Be Forgiven" (Elevation, 1999). He also co-wrote "Check Out Time" with Dave Johnston (Town By Town, 2001). YMSB jump-started the night with a ragging version of Ozzy Osborne's, "Crazy Train." Other highlights included an epic 20 plus minute jam of their original tune, "Peace of Mind," and inserted flawlessly between "Freeborn Man" was Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough!"

December 31st brought YMSB to the beautiful Paramount Theatre in Denver for an all out NYE blow out. The band played for a total of four hours! The night began with a bang as the "Cosmic Bowling League" opening act for the evening, turned out to be Yonder Mountain themselves! Dressed in bowling shirts, funny glasses, and even one mullet the boys ripped up all of the bluegrass classics such as "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Fox on the Run," "Midnight Moonlight," and the one tune you are bound to never hear YMSB play unless of course they are acting under the CBL powers- "Rocky Top!" After a short break, Yonder returned once again to the stage looking a bit more like themselves to pull off two more full sets. Burle once again joined in for an appearance in the first real YMSB set as the boys were able to debut many new unreleased tunes from their fall tour. The third set rang in 2003 in style as covers from the Talking Heads, The Beatles and Elvis all popped up. Many favorite YMSB originals also appeared including, "Snow on the Pines" with some glittery snow falling on the crowd from above and other originals such as "Half Moon Rising," "40 Miles From Denver," and "Traffic Jam."

On an even brighter note for 2003, during the two night run Yonder Mountain held a food and clothing drive with proceeds going to the Boulder County Safehouse. A limited edition Fillmore 11.08 and 11.09 poster signed by all the YMSB members was also auctioned off for the same cause. The poster and generous contributions from Kinfolk raised over $200! Yonder Mountain will hit the road again January 31st kicking off their Cabin Fever 2003 in St. Louis, MO as they continue across the South, Southeast, Northwest, and Midwest winding up March 1st in Minneapolis, MN.
