EUGENE, OR – Multi-instrumentalist Matt Butler is organizing and facilitating an Everyone Orchestra benefit performance on Sunday, October 20 at 8:00pm at the Fez Ballroom in Portland. The Everyone Orchestra is an improvisational all star jamband performance to benefit the Cascadia Forest Alliance.
The lineup for the jam includes Butler with former Jambay bandmates Mike Sugar and Chris Haugen, Jarrod Kaplan (Hanuman, Taarka), Zach Gill and ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), Tye North (Leftover Salmon), Joules Graves, Alan Glickenhaus (Higher Ground), David Tiller and Enion Pelta (ThaMuseMeant, Taarka), Josh Cliburn (Porterhouse), Bart Ferguson (Kerosene Dream) and some very special guests.
Butler maintains a special connection with the tree cause. He has scored two documentaries on the struggle to save the Headwaters Forest. His album, The Redwood Project, was featured in the Grateful Dead Almanac and has been raising funds for the protection of Northern California ecosystems.
The root of the Everyone Orchestra is in improvisational, rhythmic grooves. There are moments where different artists get the spotlight and then everyone joins in the jam. As for what to expect from the performance, Butler says, “It’s amazing to get players of this caliber together to improvise, live in front of an audience. Anything can happen. It’s the mystery and unknown that keeps Everyone on their toes and makes for magical musical moments. And it feels extra good because we do it for a cause. This one is for the trees. I think we can all relate to that.”
