Heralded as the torch bearer of the funk for the new millennium, Deep Banana Blackout, is taking an extended leave from touring at the close of the 2002 schedule. The eight-piece ensemble, featuring guitar, keys, bass, drums, percussion, and one of the tightest three piece horn sections in the business, has been one of the top purveyors of jazz-rock, soul fusion today.
The band's history includes sell out shows at the famed Irving Plaza in New York, Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans, Fox Theater in Boulder and headline appearances at Festivals all over the country and in Japan.
The band's recent live record, Release the Grease, (DCN records, 2002) captures the band's trademark rocking soul and groove laced performances and many of those songs, along with the classic DBB favorites, will be featured in the closing dates of the tour.
Band musical director Fuzz says: "After seven straight years of touring and essentially living together, we all need to step back and find ourselves again. We've had the pleasure of working with some very talented and wonderful people over the years. Most of all, it's been a real party. As to what the following year will bring, I'm sure there will be collaborations, solo efforts and more... more Banana!"
The band still has about 40 dates to go. Some of the bands' highlighted dates for the End of Party Tour 2002 include:
October 3 Pearl St. - Northampton, MA
October 10 Higher Ground - Burlington, VT
October 11 Toad's Place - New Haven, CT
October 26 The Downtown - Farmingdale, Long Island
