Last night, Asheville was treated to one of the most entertaining shows... that nobody went to! Asheville was feeling the effects of Hurricane Isadore with driving rains, and damaging winds. San Francisco's OM Trio still put on a show that will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to attend.
After playing a standard first set (that I unfortunately missed due to contemplation on whether to go out, and the exciting overtime finish to the FSU/Louisville game), the guys decided to have fun with the show, and dedicated it to the rain and to Hurricane Isadore. With very comical commentary coming from the stage, with almost every song being re-named to have something to do with rain, the trio played a plethera of covers that you would never expect to hear coming from a jazz/funk/fusion trio. Here is what we jotted down throughout the set:

** Drummer Ilya Stemkovsky called to the audience for requests and that they would attempt anything that was called out. By this time, there was maybe 20 people in attendance. Many, many different songs were called out and some attempted, some not.
Unfortunately, there were no tapers at the show, so this one will only be memories for those who attended! I commend the OM Trio for making the best of the situation. So go catch these guys next time they are in your area! Maybe they will throw out one of these gems for you. (Hell, just request it. They'll at least attempt to play it.) I can guarantee you won't be disappointed!!
