GFC GOES COAST TO COAST THIS FUNKIN FALL

Global Funk Council is unleashing it's Jazz/Funk chaos coast to coast this fall with a new addition to the band and a new album, Keep On Pushin'. Late-night gigs after String Cheese Incident and Sound Tribe Sector 9 are helping to make the GFC a nationwide funk-force that music lovers cannot miss. September has GFC making the rounds at your favorite clubs touring New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, before they open for Melvin Seals in North Carolina on the 25th.

GFP plays at Atlanta's Harvest Festival on the 27th and then down to Florida before a funk-filled October featuring a co-headlining gig with Larry on October 4th in Houston. Racing to the left coast, they really fire it up for an Interplanetary Church of Celestial Funk gig on the 12th, two late-night gigs after STS9 in Berkeley the 18th and 19th, and an incredible funk-a-thon in Chico after String Cheese Incident on the 24th.

Missoula really brings out the crowd for GFC and as reward; they will be blessed with a Halloween to be remembered. No telling what the band plans, but from what I gathered, they are psyched to be playing Montana for Halloween. With a revamped line-up and a series of epic gigs ahead, you will thank yourself for getting out to dance at a GFC gig.

Fareed Haque described GFC's new guitar player, Josh Fuhreinrich as, "Mini-Me" and from what this pirate has gathered, Josh is definitely shredding through tunes with ferocious emotion and precision. An endless run of live shows has solidified GFC as a band to experience and as a funk force for the future. Eric Bolivar (formerly of KDTU) on drums, lays down the beat with precision that is comparable to relatively few. When he first sat-in with Karl Denson Karl Denson in San Jose, all our friends could talk about after the show was, "Who sat in and laid down that nasty, thick, booty-shakin' funk?" Now that he plays skins for GFC, he has taken off to show his range and style as a master of beat and rhythm. Jonathan Stoyanoff on bass is an incredible match for Eric. Jonathan was trained at Berklee School of Music in Boston and had formerly played in a band with Motet keyboardist, Greg Raymond.

Ferocious chops and precision makes for a rhythm tag-team that tears the roof off a venue. These two comprise one of my favorite drum and bass combos in recent memory and in combination with the talent and chops that Josh Fuhreinrich and Anthony Smith bring, GFC has now made me seriously consider abusing my sick leave at work to go on tour. Anthony Smith on keyboards is driven to new heights with such a solid backline and the improvisational fury that Josh packs on guitar sends the jam even further. With accomplished solos over a concrete backline, listeners are taken all over the sound and genre spectrum making for a complete fusion funkdown of booty shakin' proportions. Filling out the band is percussionist Steve Haney, who recently reappeared with KDTU at Berkshire Music Fest. Steve and Eric also laid down the beat for Papa Mali this year at High Sierra making for a memorable performance.
