Fareed Haque is without a doubt one of, if not the most accomplished musician in our burgeoning scene. His classical training and ability to blend with so many styles has made him a hot commodity, so hot that he is involved with more bands than you could possibly keep track of. In order to help all you hungry music fans keep in touch with a true master, here is a briefing on where the guitar guru Mr. Fareed Haque will be up to in the days to come.
First off, many of you know Fareed from Garaj Mahal, who are currently touring out West, but will be criss-crossing the country until October, giving you plenty of chances to catch the groove of Garaj. If your in Northern California, make sure you catch a very special show this Friday August 23rd at the Great American Music Hall with tabla master Zakir Hussain. This will be a show of epic proportions, so dust off those dancin' shoes and make sure you get your tickets early!
As Fareed comes off Garaj Mahal tour he will quickly turn around and head out with the Fareed Haque Group. FHG will be touring October 14th through November 2nd featuring Kalyan Pathak on tabla, DJ
CAPPO, Jon Paul on Bass, Dan Leali on Drums and 21 year old Keyboard wonder Dan Nimmer. This band blew crowds away at JazzFest and everywhere they go people can't seem to get enough. This band is hot! hot! hot! and will leave you spinning all night.
Fareed is also involved with George Brooks' Summit. The Summit features George Brooks on tenor sax,
Zakir Hussain on Tabla, drummer of the year on multiple occasions Steve Smith of Vital Information on drums, and Kai Eckhardt of Garaj Mahal on bass. I was fortunate enough to witness this event at the beautiful jazz club Yoshi's in Oakland, and all I can say is, WOW! This is truly amazing music. Blending jazz with Indian music this is yet another project that is beyond words, just do yourself a favor and check them out while you can. They will be playing the following limited shows in November.

11.07 | The Dakota | St. Paul, MN
11.08 | Old Town School of Folk Music | Chicago, IL
11.12 - 11.24 | Asia
OK, well that covers plans for the remainder of 2002, but Fareed is sooooo busy he's already got plans for 2003.
On January 23rd, 2003 Fareed will be doing a solo guitar recital at Northern Illinois University with special guests at 8pm.
February 10th through 27th Fareed Haque will be on tour with 'Percussionist of the Year' Kahil el Zabar and
the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble.
In the middle of this tour Fareed will take time out on February 14th through 16th to perform the Concerto D'Aranjuez with the Bellevue Symphony
Orchestra, in Bellevue, WA.
Finally, between February 28th and March 3rd Fareed will perform at the Nordeutch Guitarentage, in Lubeck, Germany.
This impressive schedule not only highlights the man's dedication to music, but his amazing versatility. Fareed is truly a man amongst boys. Playing more rock oriented shows with Garaj Mahal, to more groove oriented engagements with the Fareed Haque group, all the way to jazz with George Brooks, and performing symphonies and classical recitals, the man is simply amazing. Just thinking about a schedule of this magnitude would make most musicians tired, but not Fareed, he appears to be capable of anything. We didn't pick him as our High Sierra MVP for nothing!
