ORDINARY K GETS DOWN IN CHI-TOWN

On their way through the Midwest Ordinary K, the five piece funk, hip-hop, soul squad out of Boulder, CO hit The Wise Fool's Pub in downtown Chicago and left their mark, thick and deep. OK opened their set with "Lay It Down," a single off of their debut album sidebyeach. While the drums, bass, keys and guitar spread down a head nodding rythm, Woodz got the crowd swaying, hands high, in a harmonic vocal chant. In a seemingly seemless three-hour show, OK wove tidal waves of improv jams and freestyles with well written, dynamically diverse, songs intertwined.

Though, a chunk of the set consisted of material on sidebyeach, there was a bunch of new material, and free form stuff as well. At one point James Steube (guitar) and James Walton (keys) dueled solos until they met in an epic, syncopated line wich rose the energy in that room to it's highest plateau. But, only after Woodz (emcee) broke it down with some vocal scratches and invited a guest emcee up for a festive, root down freestyle.

Being their maiden journey to the Midwest, this was a show to remember. Seeing the response from the crowd, I'm positive Ordinary K is bound to keep blowing Chi-Town up. OK is planning a trip back to link up with Wolfman Promotions to bring Chicago a Halloween time bash, possibly Fri. Nov. 1st. So keep ypur eyes and ears open wide for the OK Crew.
