Lotus hits the road between August 15 and September 7 for their first major tour through the Midwest and East. The tour kicks off at Zythos in Pittsburgh where Lotus played two back-to-back shows to packed houses in July. Other highlights include Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, MI, Bluebird in Bloomington, IN, Cicero's in St. Louis, MO, Boulevard Cafe in Chicago, IL, King Club in Madison, WI, Castaways in Ithaca, NY, and many more. In addition Lotus will join 1000 Vertical Ft for three shows during the 24 day tour.
Lotus, a five-piece instrumental groove band relocated from northern Indiana to Philadelphia in June of 2002. Since then the band has been busy touring in the East performing with such great acts as Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Ray's Music Exchange, Addison Groove Project, Boomshanka, and beam as well as closing out the Metadream music festival. Relix Magazine editors recently honored the band by selecting Lotus for their special “Beyond the Verge” feature in the August edition.
Lotus’s music focuses on highly danceable grooves influenced by electronic music. Styles such as house and drum 'n' bass are infused with funk and jazz added to a rhythmic background of ethnic percussion that results in a remarkably fresh sound. This fusion of improvised music with DJ culture drives the dance floor while maintaining jazz intelligence and sensibilities.
