FIUCZYNSKI TO PREMIER “TAO” AT TRIBECA BLUES

On June 27th two bands will come together at Tribeca Blues for a night of experimental ambient jazzy funk-driven grooves. David Fiuczynski’s newest group, Tao, and Boston-based funk fusion group Bootyjuice are two bands on a mission to drop their sweet sounds on anyone who comes to listen.

Trail-blazing, forward-looking jazz-rock guitarist David Fiuczynski is one of those rare musicians whose sound is instantly identifiable, music that is genuinely “new.” A jazz player who “doesn’t want to play just jazz,” he’s been hailed by the world press as an incredibly inventive guitar hero who continues to deliver with music that is unclassifiable, challenging and invigorating. Back in 1994 David Fiuczynski, with John Medeski, woke up the sleeping jazz-fusion world with a landmark album Lunar Crush, chosen by Guitar Player as a “Disc of Destiny” – in their estimation, one of the most influential albums of the last thirty years. From there he led The Screaming Headless Torsos, where he brilliantly blended jazz know-how with a love for heavy riffs. This project was named by Musician Magazine as one of the Top 10 Bands of 1995. From 1995 to now Fiuczynski has continued to amaze crowds with his guitar playing, and has recorded and performed with the likes of John Medeski, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Brandford Marsallis, Bernie Worell, Marc Ribot, Greg Osby and many more.

Most recently, Fiuczynski has been perfecting his trios including Jazzpunk, which was released in 2000 on his own label Fuzelicious Morsels, and KiF, which will be out this fall. Tao is the most recent incarnation, blending ambient vibes and heavy grooves with bluesy and Middle Eastern/East Asian sounds sure to make people drop their jaws. June 27th will be the premier performance of this group, and will feature Patrice Blanchard (Josh Roseman Unit, Screaming Headless Torsos) on bass and Aaron Johnson (Tony Furtado) on drums. Tao will be touring the East Coast in August and September and heading out West for a California tour in the Fall.

Getting the evening started will be Bootyjuice, making their second NYC appearance (their first time being a benefit show in Brooklyn with Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet, who is now on tour with Trey Anastasio's Band). The now seven-piece groove collaboration has been playing together for the past three years and performed all across the country with popular acts such as Project Logic, Soulive and others. Bootyjuice features Mike Gamble (guitar), Conor Elms (drums), Zach Lucas (alto sax), Joey Mazz (Keys), Joe Dematteo (drums and percussion), Tony Kieraldo (Key-tar and keys) and Bennett Miller (bass). All members were united at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, studying closely with rhythm guru Bob Moses, one of the chief influences of the group Medeski Martin & Wood. Bootyjuice fuses together all types and genres including jazz, funk, reggae, dancehall, drum & bass and hip-hop. Their music is anything but clean! Get ready to get dirty on June 27th when they tear it up at Tribeca Blues in NYC.
