"Everybody's dancin' at the local armory... Come the rockin' stroke of midnight, the place is gonna fly!"
For those trekking to the Dead Family Reunion shows, there's lots more great music going on from August 2-5 near Alpine Valley. Tim “Sundog” Corcoran has planned a weekend of Dead-related festivities in that Midwest hub, as well as a special wrap-up performance in Chicago. Details? Keep on readin'!
Sundog is happy to announce that Vince Welnick will appear live at the Hoppe Homestead Campground on Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th. Vince will perform with Terrapin Flyer, the same Chicago band that played with him at the last Sundog Summer Shakedown 2001. These are late-night performances that will begin each evening after the conclusion of the Dead Family Reunion shows.
For those unfamiliar with the area, Hoppe Homestead Campground is a quick drive from Alpine Valley, and features rustic camping plus an indoor breakfast café. (See hoppehomestead.com for more venue details.) Please note that the Hoppe Homestead is fully booked for that weekend! And please, don't show up to the Hoppe Homestead if you don't have reservations and/or tickets to the shows. This is especially important given the near-cancellation of the shows. Respect our scene and help us build strong relationships with the communities we visit!
Also that Friday, August 2 Sundog will host a Grateful Deadhead grassroots show at Thai Joe's Bangkok Orchid, a fine live music club and restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (see thaijoes.com for more venue details). This show will feature Vince and Terrapin Space Band, a Chicago group organized by Jim Farmer (drummer for Speargrass). Joining Vince on guitars will be Kris Nowak (of the Calico Cats and Terrapin Flyer) and "Grateful Gary" Gibula (formerly of The Schwag). Mike Hazdra (formerly of Dark Star Orchestra) will play bass and Daon Hufnus (Terrapin Flyer) will play drums. The show begins at 11:00pm, with an opening band (TBA) to begin the night at 9:00pm. Admission is $8.00 per person at the door, and there will be a $3.00 special discount for those folks camping at the Hoppe Homestead.
To wrap up a wonderful weekend, Sundog has planned a closing show on Monday, August 5 with Vince Welnick and Terrapin Space Band. Festivities will take place at the Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. This is an early show that begins at 8:00pm, and admission is $8.00 at the door.
And don't forget to check out the Sundog Summer Shakedown with Vince Welinck at the NCN-North Campground
in Black River Falls, Wisconsin from August 30 through September

As you probably know, Vince Welnick played keyboards for Grateful Dead from 1990-1995 and was also a founding member of The Tubes. Vince has also performed with Todd Rundgren, Merl Saunders, Bobby Vega, Steve Kimock, David Nelson, Vassar Clements and David Gans, to name a few!
