The fun begins Wednesday May 15th, with an all night dance party put on by the local masters of the funk jams, Groovatron. Groovatron headlines Wise Fools Pub all night, every single Wednesday, which allows them to stretch things out and jam their faces off. Groovatron is one of the hottest Chicago local bands on the jam scene... these guys are not to be missed!
Thursday, Chicago’s favorite jam kings are back. Get your Umph fix with two separate shows of Umphrey's McGee at Schuba's. These shows are a return to the days not so long ago, when Umphrey’s could be found in small venues all around Chicagoland. Word has it, several guests are in store... These shows will be hot!
Friday is a toss up. You’ve got Del Mar and The Nod at The Boulevard Cafe, another double dose of Umphrey's McGee at Schuba's, 56 Hope Road will be playing all night at Wise Fools Pub, and PhilFest gets underway up in the northern suburb of Evanston with a special Friday night appearance by DJ Logic.
Saturday truly is an amazing day of live music in the Chicagoland area. PhilFest will be raging all day long with an incredible lineup. For those of you who are not familiar with PhilFest, it is an annual music festival held at Northwestern University in Evanston. The festival is a way to honor Philip Austin Semmer, a Northwestern student who died in a car accident while studying in Australia. Northwestern students use PhilFest as a way to celebrate Phil’s passions in life, jamband music and ultimate Frisbee. The event is outside on the shores of Lake Michigan and is free to people of all ages. Donation booths will be set up and all proceeds will contribute to the Philip Austin Semmer Memorial Fund.
From noon until midnight, the main stage lineup will include Family of Souls, Co-Dependant Origination (CDO), Cornmeal, Frank Catalano, Fareed Haque Group, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, The Slip, and Sound Tribe Sector 9. Also, a side stage will be raging with local jamsters 1000 Vertical Ft and Groovatron. If that’s not enough music for you, Medeski Martin & Woodwill be playing The Riviera Theatre and Guy Smiley Blues Exchange will be at The Boulevard Cafe, with a special PhilFest benefit show going late into the night.
Sunday is the big ultimate Frisbee tournament on the PhilFest grounds in Evanston, as well as, Hemp Fest over on Cricket Hill in Chicago.
Monday and Tuesday, fresh off their PhilFest performance, The Slip will be tearing it up for two nights in the intimate confines of The Boulevard Cafe, a room one-fourth the size of the last room they played in Chicago. The Slip excel when the vibe is right, it's worth getting off the couch early in the week!
Wednesday, it’s back to Wise Fools Pub for an all night jam-a-thon with Groovatron. And this brings us full circle, all the way around the greatest week of jam music Chicago has ever seen!
Enjoying the jams,
