Founding member of Groove Collective and trombone rebel, Josh Roseman and his Josh Roseman Unit (JRU) are set to kick off a West Coast tour of California this month. Beginning at the 19 Broadway in Fairfax, The JRU will bring their “thinking music you can party to” to West Coast audiences for the first time.
Coming off of two four-week stints with Soulive and Charlie Hunter respectively, Roseman will be accompanied by an all-star band, including Bay Area mavericks Will Bernard, Peter Apfelbaum (who will be joining the Trey Anastasio tour this spring), Deszon X Claiborne and Scott Amendola, as well as fellow Groove Collective alumni Barney McAll and bassist Patrice Blanchard.
They will be performing material from the band’s debut album Cherry (Knitting Factory Records/Velour Recordings). The record has been met with critical acclaim in both jazz and rock circles, and has been hailed by WIRED Magazine as “Twisted... this Benny Goodman meets Blade Runner project obscures all marching band associations. Thirteen eccentric players clash beautifully on one blindingly Day-Glow rant after another.”
The tour will include stops at the Elbo Room and the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco (5/11 and 5/15) as well as The Temple Bar in Santa Monica (5/20) and Winston's (5/21) among others.
