DEADLINE FRIDAY WASTING NO TIME

Is it normal for a nine-month old band to find itself on the same concert lineup as Dave Matthews and Gov’t Mule? The way Deadline Friday of San Diego has done just that, they make it almost seem like it is. But whatever the case, this blues-laden foursome will be tearing it up in the months ahead all over the West Coast zone of the booming party that is the jamband/soulfunk circuit, and DAMN! what a good time is!

On Monday, May 13, upwards of 20,000 music savvy fans will enjoy Deadline as they play on the sidestage at the sold-out Coors Amphitheater in Chula Vista, CA--a tasty appetizer before the loaded grunge of Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule followed by the Dave Matthews Band.

The Coors gig is just the beginning of an outrageous summer that takes the band to Flagstaff, AZ and then to Mexico and the beaches of Baja where they will open this year’s Baja Bash on Friday, July 26th. MAKE SURE you check out this incredible three-day music festival on the amazing beach of Salsipuedos, only 90 miles south of the border. Go to BajaBash.com for all your travel arrangements.

But before all that can begin, Deadline Friday has the honor of kicking off the Pacific Beach Block Party Saturday, May 11 in San Diego. The group will be getting the juices flowing at noon so make sure yours already are and float on to the 101.5 KGB stage at Garnet and Bayard. Locals can find out more about the festivities at www.slammsd.com.

Later this month on Friday, May 24th, Deadline Friday will return to one of Southern California’s most reliable juke joints: Winston’s. A place that has hosted a multitude of nationally touring bands along with scores of great local talent, it’s located in the heart of Ocean Beach.

The very next weekend Deadline Friday returns to Flagstaff, AZ for the first time since January when the band’s first gig in this heavenly mountain town was a raging success. This time through on Saturday, June 1st, the dance floor will be located on the porch of the Flagstaff Brewing Co. as they headline the Outdoor Porch Party hosted by the good people at Flagstaff Brew Co.

Once again, the band will be providing listening pleasure for those enjoying the kind beer from this kind little city that has become quite a hot spot for bands touring through the West Coast and Southwest. This is due in large part to the thousands of heady Lumberjacks from Northern Ariz. University who make this town one of the rowdiest in the region.

Reflecting on the band’s first nine months together is remarkably encouraging. After winning the Best-of-the-Month award for January at the legendary Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, all the while becoming regular guests at Winston’s, it still seams unlikely that a group that barely even knew each other this time a year ago would be playing such good music in such a cohesive manner. It’s scary to think that this band is not even complete, as the group is looking to add a keyboard player to round out the groove. Get a flavor of Deadline with keys when Seth Stewart joins them on the sidestage at Coor’s.

Regardless, when the four of these guys hunker down, it’s all you need for a goood time. Jim Diez and Mike Spurgat handle the guitar duties while Chris O’Meally fills it up on bass and John Bonham-reincarnate Bill Coomes pounds the skins for an amazing pulse that’ll get your ass moving every time.

Look for the band to get together again with Cubensis here in Southern California as well as a summer full of shows along the Golden Coast—that means you SLO and San Francisco!! Until then, you know what time it is, so make sure you hit your Deadline!
