DO YOU SPEAK THE CODE?

Kicking off the weekend in NYC, Col. Bruce Hampton will have you too speaking "the code." The second stop on their northeastern tour, The Code Talkers Featuring Col. Bruce Hampton will be headlining at Tribeca Blues Thursday April 18.

Having played music for the better part of thirty years, the legendary Hampton seems to be a one man show of his own, on and off the stage. Long known for his ability to put together great bands, from Aquarium Rescue Unit to the Fiji Mariners, the Codetalkers are sure to please old fans and new fans alike. Formed in 1999, in addition to the Colonel, the band is comprised of Sean Peterson (bass), Bobby Lee Rodgers (guitar and electric banjo), and Tyler Greenwell (drums). Communicating through the code of music, the sound of the band can range from down-home blues and country tunes to funky exploratory jamming.

The year 2001 saw the band joined on stage by the likes of Bob Weir and Mike Gordon, and opening for the infamous Les Claypool and Widespread Panic. Interesting enough, the Colonel does not limit himself to just music endeavors, as he also appeared with Billy Bob Thornton in Slingblade and in Outside Out, Mike Gordon of Phish's movie featuring Bruce as a guitar instructor who teaches "how to play out."

Checking out the Codetalkers in an intimate venue such as Tribeca Blues will be a rare treat indeed, especially if any of the rumored possible special guests sit in with the band. If the year 2002 even matches the music of years past, this is one show not to be missed.
