Critics are applauding Balkan Beat
Box's new set Blue Eyed Black Boy, due out April 27 on Nat Geo
Music. Huffington Post proclaims it "has single handedly raised the ante of what modern Balkan music
could sound like," and Boston Globe's Grade A album review calls it "as sharp and serious as it comes." Likewise, their live shows have been lauded, with the New York Times calling them "wild" and the San
Francisco Weekly describing a recent show where "The Fillmore's crystal chandeliers began shaking so hard
with the stomping crowd it was like the whole auditorium turned into one giant rattle." Balkan Beat Box will bring
their tour to the U.S. with a series of dates that includes stops at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Lincoln Center
Out of Doors in New York and Lollapalooza.
Self-produced by Balkan Beat Box, Blue Eyed Black Boy features a variety of musical instruments and guest
appearances, including a local gypsy orchestra from Belgrade called Jovica Ajdarevic Orkestar. The album
combines the musical elements of Mediterranean and Balkan traditions with hip-hop beats and punk influences,
creating a unique sound that The New Yorker calls "a dizzying array of musical hybrids."
