The Roots Picnic June 5: Vampire Weekend & Run-DMC?
How I Got Over Gets Release Date & Band Starts New Album With Booker T.
Set to take place on June 5 at Festival Pier on Penn's Landing, this year's Roots Picnic will feature headliners Vampire Weekend as well as, Nneka, Clipse, The Very Best, Mayer Hawthorne, tUnE-yArDs, Pattern Is Movement, Das Racist, Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew, and of course The Roots. The event will also feature two Roots side projects, one of which finds ?uestlove linking up with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Black Thought.
The lineup announcement was made via ?uestlove's Twitter account with the video below. In the vid ?uestlove announces a huge reunion but won't come out and say who it is. However, based on the footage below it seems pretty clear that Run-DMC will be in the house.
In other recent Roots news, ?uestlove also Twitter-announced that the band's long-delayed album How I Got Over will finally come out June 8 on Def Jam. The record was originally set for release last June, but was subsequently pushed back several more times due to additional recording and the band's commitment as the house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
The Roots also just began recording a new album with Booker T. Jones. There are no details available at this time but the project is expected to feature a number of guest vocalists.
