Even in the city where “everything is happening”, rarely do you find an evening where the musical setting is perpetuated by a significantly diversified assemblage of bands, each moving in a different direction yet uniting through the common threads of their respective traditions. An evening such as this is meant to gather all ears, appeal to different shades of folks who may not be socially involved otherwise but are sure to find commonalities through the musicians they are there to support. This is why music is. It connects everyone.

Three bands from three cities will be taking part in this auditory experiment as we seek to stir it up this Thursday night, March 7th at New York City’s Village Underground with the punk-mambo fiesta of Babaloo, the groove ornamentals of The Truth and the atmospheric scientology of The Ally.

Boston’s greasy salsa pirates Babaloo have been playing up in Beantown for a while getting people up to shake it, working their own brand of Afro-Cuban rhythms caked in hard flavors driven by tight percussive elements. The Truth, the 9-piece ensemble representing their home base, is filled with the soulful ingredients of a cooking horn section backed by a tight quintet of funk doctors. Getting the word out in New York City for about a year now, The Truth have been getting people to groove as they kick out their tasty original material. This being their New York City record release party for the new album Action, Philadelphia’s The Ally celebrates the DJ culture by blending spacious soundscapes with propelling beats in a form all their own. UPENN alums, The Ally got it going on in their hometown for the right reasons, they have written their own vocabulary of sonic exploration both pulsing and intelligent. Recorded at the famous Barn, (Trey's Barn) Action was a recent purchase of one Mr. Michael Gordon at their last NYC appearance a month ago.

This gathering is sure to forge a great relationship between these three groups, making their respective futures in music that much stronger with the help of their fellow players. All angles are pretty much covered here. Where ever you may find yourself, whatever your audio pleasure may be, one can be sure that this night will be pleasing to all appetites. Come on out and enjoy.
