Hey Ma! Pack up the bus and let's get out ON THE ROAD! The String Cheese Incident has announced their annual Spring Tour, causing kids throughout the south and midwest parts of the country to SMILE, make JOYFUL SOUNDS, and spontaneously hula-hoop.
The Barefoot Boys from Boulder will kick off their Spring Tour with a
three-night stand at Austin's Waterloo Park ("underneath that Texas sun") on April 4-6, 2002, in what many hope will be a repeat of last year's historic run. This year's Austin run will feature opening acts by Tenacious D (the World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band!), Hayseed Dixie, and Jackie Pepper. The tour will then move north, stopping for a 4th TEXAS show in Dallas (4/8), Tulsa, OK (4/9) and Omaha (4/10), before taking a BREATHEr with two long-overdue weekend Incidents in Chicago's UIC Pavilion (4/12 with Ozomatli and 4/13 with Keller Williams). From Chi-town, the circus follows the RHYTHM OF THE ROAD through Ann Arbor's famed Hill Auditorium for a second consecutive Incident with Keller (4/14). SCI will then make an
inter-GALACTIC return appearance at the Veteran's Memorial in Columbus (4/16) before heading SOUTHBOUND into the heartland, turning up the yee-haw factor in Louisville (4/17) and TEARING DOWN THE GRAND OLE OPRY's Ryman
Auditorium in Nashville (4/18). Just before hitting the home stretch, the
boys make an ALABAMA GETAWAY to Birmingham (4/19).
The annual celebration of drummer/percussionist Michael Travis' birthday
will take place in high style in what is sure to be an epic two-night run at
the Fabulous Fox Theater in HOTLANTA (4/20-4/21) (don't miss these shows kiddies!). From Atlanta, the never-ending fun continues south for a very rare run of two nights in the Sunshine State, playing to Floridians in Pompano Beach (4/23) and Orlando (4/24). After baking under the SUNNY SKIES of Florida, the boys load up the bus and take the party on to New Orleans, where the Cheese are rumored to make their debut OUTSIDE on the big stage at
the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 26 (TBA), before heading
back INSIDE for two nights at the Saenger Theater (4/27 and 28). If the
last two years of shows at the Saenger are any indication, these will be the
hottest tickets of the tour, so DON'T SAY we didn't warn ya.
Ever blazing a path on the cutting edge, the kind folks at SCI Fidelity
Records are proud to introduce an innovative series of live releases
entitled On The Road. Barring any technical difficulties or venue
restrictions, a three-CD recording from each Incident along the Spring
Cheese 2002 Tour will be available for pre-order when you purchase your
concert tickets, for pre-order at the Incident, and for purchase at
www.stringcheeseincident.com. The On The Road series is an experimental
project designed to help fill the steady demand for better access to SCI's
live material. If this idea gets positive feedback from friends and family,
SCI may offer something like this along future tours or for eternity. This
project in no way jeopardizes The String Cheese Incident's long-standing
policy of allowing individuals to record and trade their live performances.
The Cheesy future looks bright with growing numbers of kind folks getting
hooked each night. In these sometimes dark days, the band and the FOCs who
love them continue to work that circular energy, putting gouda vibes in
circulation and see who they find!
