BELOVED BAY AREA MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER REMEMBERED
Jim McPherson was a rising star in the Bay Area music scene of the '70s and early '80s, playing and writing with folks like John Cipollina, Jefferson Starship, Robert Hunter, Mickey Hart, Merl Saunders, Bobby Vega, The Doobie Brothers’ John McFee, Kathi McDonald and many more. He passed in 1985 after a long illness. At long last, his widow Evy has organized and produced a collection of his unreleased work. These tunes were digitized by Paul Stubblebein and mixed and mastered by Tom Size. The CD, A Promise Kept, is now available. Dead Heads will be interested to know that quite a few of these cuts were recorded at The Barn, on Mickey Hart's ranch, by Dan Healy, and feature Mickey on drums.
On Thursday, October 1, his friends and family will hold a special event at Mill Valley's 142 Throckmorton Theatre, "A Promise Kept/A Celebration of Jim McPherson". Many of the musicians who played with McPherson will be involved, including Nick Gravenites, David Freiberg, Bobby Vega, Prairie Prince, Michael Hinton, Snooky Flowers, Chris Smith, Steve Schuster, Tom Bryant, Dennis Carrasco, Kathi McDonald, Linda Imperial, Diana Mangano, plus many more. Few musicians are remembered more fondly; come and find out why!
