Will Hoge returns September 29 with an album as real as the personal nightmare that nearly ended his career. While returning from the studio during the recording sessions for his Rykodisc release The Wreckage, Hoge's scooter was struck by another vehicle, leaving him near death.
The power of The Wreckage is not in the fear, frustration or other emotions that such an experience might draw out of a songwriter, but rather, acceptance, and a rediscovery of the simple joy of making good music. "It's hard to explain, but I felt a certain serenity making this album," Hoge says. "The process became easier. I believe the songs flow with more confidence."
Hoge has delivered a thoughtful, yet rugged and powerful rock 'n roll album that drives through the heart of America (he performs 200 plus dates per year), taking back roads rather than interstates.
"Even If It Breaks Your Heart," Hoge's homage to rock & roll as life's true calling, was written (like many of the songs on the album) after the accident. "The minute we started recording it, it was one of those songs that drove itself. Everyone in the room understood the sentiment. There was magic in that moment you don't get very often," he says. Delivered in his husky vibrato, it's a stand-on-your-chair-and-wave-your-hands kind of tune that is simply undeniable. The invisible presence of Hoge's accident adds an undercurrent to this song, and a focus to the entire album, that simply makes this album Will's finest achievement to date.

True to form, Hoge is touring extensively throughout the country over the coming months.
