MOTION FOR ALLIANCE | BOULDER

Exploding onto the scene with a bottomless arsenal of rave-esque sounds and textural improvisations, MFA (Motion For Alliance) creates a living, breathing, musical organism at every show. In less than eight months, MFA has embarked on three national tours and recorded two full length albums. Arrival (2001) unites 16 tracks of music into an epic musical adventure through space and time. Body (March 2002) consists of eight songs, each of which challenge and invigorate one's body to move in ways previously unimaginable. Both their albums have strong foundations in rave/dance music, and the band has no trouble translating this energy into their live shows.

MFA's sound is based on a philosophy of music that incorporates strong melodies and tight breaks surrounded by improvised grooves. Communication between the band members and their audience is the key ingredient to this formula. Sets are constructed from the influence of DJ's, with smooth transitions from one feel to the next, keeping the journey flowing. Ideas pass from one musician to another, building, growing, peaking, and morphing into the next idea so smoothly that most people can't believe they are listening to a live band. MFA is curious and excited about the limitless possibilities of dance music; every set becomes a collaborative quest to capture the emotions of all the journey takers in the venue. If you haven't seen MFA yet, you're missing the revolution in dance music. For more information on MFA, go to MFACentral.com.

Motion for Alliance will play a FREE show at Boulder's Fox Theater on Wednesday, January 23rd. Swivel Hips Smith open the show at 9pm.
