Rashanim Set To Release Album Of All Acoustic Material
Rashanim |
Rashanim, known to some as "NYC's baddest Jewish power trio," will release their first all-acoustic CD on Tzadik Records on July 28. The album, entitled The
Gathering, features the trio journeying far beyond their electric
setting into the uncharted world of banjos, exotic percussion, and ethereal voices.
"It's a soundtrack for a very strange movie that doesn't exist," says Jon Madof,
Rashanim's guitarist and leader. "We had very specific
imagery in mind - each song is named for a biblical prophet but could be
evocative of a medieval European town, a group of old cowboys around a
camp fire, or the prophet Elijah chastising his people for worshiping
idols."
The Gathering is Rashanim's fourth CD on Tzadik Records, whose
executive producer is John Zorn. Zorn calls the CD "A powerful acoustic
recording that is perhaps their best to date. Rashanim joyfully
celebrates the Jewish experience with passion, lyricism, and a profound
sensitivity."
Rashanim will celebrate the release of The Gathering with a
performance on July 18 at the Tzadik Festival in Poznan, Poland.
