NAS & DAMIAN "JR GONG" MARLEY ENTER THE STUDIO FOR NEW RELEASE DISTANT RELATIVES
Album set for Release this June with U.S. & European Tour Dates to be Announced Shortly

Jr. Gong & Nas
International hip-hop superstar Nas and GRAMMY-winning artist Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley have announced that they are in the studio collaborating on an album entitled Distant Relatives. The album will be released in late June 2009 and be followed by a multi-continent concert tour.

The album features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Throughout the course of their musical careers, the duo has taught each other and always admired each other's style. Since first meeting in 1996 the two artists have shared a mutual respect and camaraderie that was most recently showcased on "Road to Zion," a standout track from Damian's critically acclaimed album, Welcome to Jamrock. After having such a positive experience working together, they have now joined forces again for Distant Relatives.

The album title refers not only to the bond of Nas and Damian, but the bond to their African ancestry, which inspired the album both musically and lyrically. "Africa is the backbone of the world and the foundation of everything and Africans are in a situation where they need help more than anywhere else," notes Damian Marley. "We know there are dire situations here in America but when you look at America — with public libraries and free education — these are not opportunities most Africans have. It's a completely different scale of trying to help people. As humans beings, we're part of a human family."

Nas agrees, "As an American, we have so much even in a so-called recession that a neighborhood like Queensbridge or Red Hook is Beverly Hills compared to the way people are living in Nigeria, Sierre Leone, and Ghana," says the emcee. "So obviously if we making records with that theme, there's gonna be things I want to build on. I think Africa has a lot to teach us."

people who are unfamiliar with these two artists need to brace them selves, this album is going to be one for the ages and nothing that nas touches is bad. i am so excited about this it is ridiculous and we can all except the absolout best production on the face of the earth, anyone who has seen either nas or jr gong before knows that this is what they love and they are intent on delivering a message lyrically. i am so excited about this i cannot even express it in words and good lord i cant wait until rothbury. NAS FOREVER QBS FINEST

Chux, I hope you're right. I love both artists, but Nas has had some rough albums and collaborations (i.e. PUFF DADDY). Illmatic will always remain one of the all-time greatest albums and not just for Hip-Hop. I'm looking forward to this though, I think it'll be off the hook! I hope they'll sign up for the Roo or do some kind of national tour, besides the Rock the Bells and other festivals.

... My nipples just got so hard, you could dial the phone with them. Holy SHIT! This will kick ass. Nas and "Jr. Gong" are 2 musical geniuses. Plus, they are headlining this summer's ROCK THE BELLS Tour.

"Road To Zion" is the best track on "Welcome To Jamrock" which isn't even Jr. Gong's best album (for that, see "Halfway Tree"). I hope this album will be a masterpiece. There is a lot these two artists can do for their fans and for music. Bob Marley tried so hard at the end of his career to be embraced by African American mainstream audiences through collaborations with Stevie Wonder and other R&B artists of his time. As legendary as he has become, the R&B Music Industry at that time was not hearing Bob. Now, his Son looks to be on the verge of getting out Roots Reggae to vast numbers of people of all races, to reach out to the suffering masses of Africa, just like his father dreamed of. Respect.

Oh hell yes. When I found out about their Rothbury set, my friend said he heard about this. But now that it's official I'm fucking pumped.
