"ROCK-AND-ROLL, motherfucker!" indeed. :)
Excellent article! One of the best I've read about EMT. Being a bay area local I've seen McFadden many times and he has never been disappointing. You get your moneys worth when you go to one of his shows.
I dont know why we dont hear more about James Whiton in this scene, the dude's awesome.
I'll really miss The New Up's former drummer, Jack McFadden. But Dennis is right, their newcomer Drew Bertrand really nailed it! If you hadn't seen The New Up before you'd never have guessed that it was his first show.
Ever since 1997, the very best show I have ever seen in my life, has been the last time I saw Eric Mcfadden! And that goes Double for Eric Mcfadden Trio, since James Whiton is more than just a boring bass player that plays rhythm for Eric to solo to! James is the perfect adjunct to Eric's brilliance.
And each drummer that backs those 2 guys, always brings his own special part to the performance. In this current band, Doug Port, is a fucking, hard pounding, energetic animal that once again, is a perfect fit to an already overwhelming line up.
The 3 of these guys together, are the tightest, hardest playing, band I've ever seen and they do it without even rehearsing together! They literally practice on stage, and at the same time, might even be writing the next album!
You aint seen nothing in life until you've seen EMT live and all that topped off by them being the nicest, most genuine guys you could ever meet!
I'm proud to know these guys and I'm a long time, extremely proud groupie of anything Eric does!
See ya at the Bottom of the Hill in SF brothers!
