National Guitar Workshop Announce Jam Summit
With Jimmy Herring and Oteil Burbridge in Purchase, NY July 26-31

Jimmy Herring
The National Guitar Workshop cordially invites all creative, open-minded, and genre busting musicians ON ANY INSTRUMENT to experience the first and only music workshop dedicated to the love and spirit of the Jam. Over the last 25 years, The National Guitar Workshop has been a leader in quality music education. Past alumni have included Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon and Eric Krasno.

"It was pretty cool to hibernate in guitarland for a while. I wrote my song "Weigh" while there, and met Leo Kottke for the first time." – Mike Gordon '90

This year we are proud to have Jimmy Herring and Oteil Burbridge appear as special guests. Jimmy and Oteil will present a unique duo clinic on their individual approach to making music. Best known as founding members of the Aquarium Rescue Unit, both Jimmy and Oteil have developed a unique voice on their instrument.

The Jam Summit will be a space where intermediate to advanced players, of all instruments and ages, will be guided and encouraged to unleash their potential as improvisers and spontaneous composers. Participants will explore the places where rock, folk, jazz, funk, latin, reggae, country, psychedelic, and free playing can meet, meld, and morph.

At least twice a day, you will play with your fellow Jammers under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Each student will also have a primary instructor that will work with them during the Music Intensives on instrumental techniques, repertoire, time, groove, music theory, and other concepts. All students will get a chance to spend quality time with each of the instructors, as well as witness great master classes during the Summit Community Gatherings, groove at the Faculty Super-Jam, and rock the student concert. This Summit will give you lots of new tools and ideas for expanding your musical horizons.

Typical Daily Schedule:
9:00 - 10:30 Music Intensive
10:30 - 12:00 Morning Jam
1:00 - 2:30 Afternoon Jam
2:30 - 4:00 Summit Community Gathering

NGW has culled the Jam Summit faculty from some of the best in the business, picking instructors that combine solid classroom skills with serious chops and onstage experience. Jam Summit faculty have performed and recorded with Charlie Hunter, Derek Trucks, Bob Weir, Stanton Moore, String Cheese Incident, Warren Haynes, J.J. Cale, Eric Krasno and many more.

2009 Jam Summit Faculty:

Jimmy and Oteil are going to be amazing. It is close to the Vibes, so anything could happen.

The ARU doesn't have a future touring chance. No new material, Jimmy will be busy again after this coming summer and Bruce isn't in the best of health. I personally liked the ARU v2 with Kofi Paul Henson and Sean better anyway.

kinda harsh having to be at school by nine and all the jamming is done by 2:30? I'm a night jammer myself. My musical thoughts age better at night.

Jimmy a founding member? Im under the impression that Apt. Q-258, and Oteil from Egypt were the founding members along with the Colonel. I remember an interview sayin that oteil, sipe, and a young kofi were roomates; jimmy met sipe, sipe met col. and got oteil involved and then jimmy joined later. I believe a more "founding" member would be Deacon Charlie Williams on guitar, and Rev. Jeff Mosier (of blueground undergrass) on banjo... excluding Jimmy and Matt Mundy (mandolin) who would join later to form what we seem to be calling aru v.1... Can someone correct me if wrong... its a shame so little is known about this (insert highly-favorable adjective) band.

Hey "DiggityDawg" I'd bet that the *majority* of the people who peruse the articles on here have never seen both versions live, let alone heard, or own the official releases.
