Jack White's New Band The Dead Weather

Jack White's New Band The Dead Weather Debut at Third Man Records' Nashville Opening
Debut Single Available Exclusively on iTunes

The Dead Weather
Last night (March 11) saw the very first performance of The Dead Weather, the brand new rock outfit consisting of Dean Fertita, Jack Lawrence, Alison Mosshart and Jack White.

The band performed at the opening of Jack White's new Third Man Records building in downtown Nashville. Third Man Records is the imprint on which all White's music has been released over the years, acting as the label for all of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs releases around the world. The new Third Man Records includes a brand new company HQ that will house the label's offices as well as a vinyl record store, photo studio, dark room and performance stage.

The Dead Weather's performance at the opening included several songs from their forthcoming debut album, Horehound. The band, fronted by Alison Mosshart (known to music fans as one half of London-based rock outfit The Kills) includes The Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence on bass, Queens Of The Stone Age member Dean Fertita on guitar and Jack White on drums and vocals. White produced Horehound, which was recorded in just three weeks earlier this year at the newly constructed Third Man Studio, also designed from the ground up by Jack White. The album will be released via Third Man in June.

Last night's event saw around 150 fans, family and friends attend the Third Man HQ event, where their letter-pressed invitations were exchanged for limited edition 7" vinyl pressings of The Dead Weather's debut single "Hang You From The Heavens" (b/w a stealth cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?"). Each of the 150 7" records were individually hand painted by the band and each included a different photo booth strip of the band members. These two songs are also available now exclusively through iTunes.

The set list:
60 Feet Tall
Hang You From The Heavens
Treat Me Like Your Mother
New Pony

anybody see the white stripes on conan obriens last show? it was so absolutely terrible. he couldn't even sing it and had to give cues to the chick as to when the chord changes were. sounded awful.

Alison Mosshart is fantastic!

Nice duo for sure, not a surprise that The Kills opened for The Raconteurs and now the two of them form a band.

I respect the Jack White for not doing the same thing over and over.... and over....

I don't know about musical genius. I slowly have jumped on the wagon of screw Jack White...do yourself a favor and listen to a real gritty bluesy nasty rock band. Check out the BLACK KEYS...Peace

people who compare the white stripes to the black keys ONLY do it because of the fact that they are both 2 piece bands. get a fucking clue.

yeah, that conan performance was quite a bit off for sure... but the energy of conan's last show was more than enough to fill in the gaps, it was definitely worth the watch... the song they played is so much better when covered by Jack Johnson though. I'd give this new band a chance, don't know if I'll actually shell out money for the album though. The rock scene has always had a tinge of pretentiousness and cries for attention, and in that vain mr.white seems to sort of follow suit... Which is not a particularly bad thing, don't get me wrong. With the smashing pumpkins having become null and void, someone has to fill billy corgan's seat..

Ps, I love the pumpkins (and white stripes aren't that bad either)

Wikipedia never lies ;) ....The band (Black Keys) is frequently compared to The White Stripes, a blues-based musical duo (drums; vocals and guitar) from Detroit...you don;t hear any similarities in the white stripes and black keys both being bluesy gritty low fi rock and roll...interesting remark the two piece comparison is null in void. I was going by what my ears hear not what my eyes see

The Rebel INS

You'll be hearing about the Black Keys very soon. There a kick ass, blues rock band. Anyone see the The Raconteurs' set at Bonnarroo last year? I don't know how you could not love Jack White after that. They killed it!

Sounds like some folks^ are a bit threatened by Jack White and his ability to play and make music, the guy is a musical genius plain and simple.

The song rocks, even if Jack only plays drums.

If you like the Black Keys, check out Dan Auerbach's new solo album, it is amazing. If you don't like the Blac Keys, you still may like it because it is a little less garagey blues with a full band backing him Hacienda out of Texas and the drummer from My Morning Jacket has been touring with him.

The Black Keys and The White Stripes are both great bands. Why hate when there is just more great music to love??
